Comforter Sets

A comforter can help to turn your bed into a luxurious escape. This warm addition to your bed is snuggly and comfortable for cold winter’s nights. Add a comforter over your sheets for a clean, uncluttered bedroom look.

What is a comforter?

A comforter is a thick, quilted blanket used as the top blanket on a bed. They are usually filled with synthetic materials such as polyester or cotton blends. It is then quilted or stitched in some pattern so that the material stays secure in place.

It is often used as an alternative to a duvet. It comes in a bedding set with matching pillow covers. These beautiful bed covers can offer different levels of warmth, with some being very thick and others lighter and ideal for warmer weather. They come in a range of sizes to suit your bed. From single to King size, you’ll find one in the right size for you.

What’s the difference between a duvet and a comforter?

A duvet is two pieces of fabric filled with down or synthetic fibre. The materials inside the duvet are not stitched, so there is an element of movement within the duvet. A duvet needs a duvet cover over it. A comforter has it’s inner materials stitched in place, so the filling doesn’t shift and move.

One of the major differences between a duvet and a comforter is the fact that many duvets need to be sent to a dry cleaner to be cleaned. A comforter is simpler to clean – just pop it in the washing machine at home. The stitching on top of the bed cover will prevent the inner materials from shifting around in the wash, so you won’t end up with all the material lumped in one corner.

A comforter doesn’t require a cover over it – it is used as is. For this reason, you shouldn’t use it without a sheet. By adding a sheet layer between the comforter and your body, you protect the its surface. A duvet on the other hand doesn’t require a sheet under it. So if you’re not fan of making your bed, a duvet offers a convenient solution – just pull your duvet over your bed.
It comes in a range of colours and styles. Often a simple, solid colour is the best look for it - select beige, white and cream for a classic look in a neutral bedroom. Add a pop of colour with bright scatter cushion or patterned blanket to inject some visual interest into the room. Plain duck egg blue or pink bed covers are feminine and fun alternatives.

Duvets are normally a bit smaller than comforters. A comforter will cover more of the bed, draping over the edges and almost brushing the floor. Just like a duvet set, it includes matching pillows. A single duvet will include one pillow cover, which double, queen and king sets include two pillow cases.
