Sheer

Combining form and function, sheer curtains have made a huge comeback in interior design, thanks to the popularity of open plan and smaller living spaces.
Light and breezy, these go beyond just being visually elegant, they also let in loads of light, offer unobstructed views from inside while maintaining your privacy. To keep your room open and spacious a sheer curtain works beautifully on its own and are available in a variety of classic and modern colours. If you are looking for a cosier option layer a sheer or voile under or over a block out, plain or patterned curtain and you’ll bring your whole room together.

What is a sheer curtain?

Sheer curtains (also referred to as window sheers) are curtains that are made of a light material that lets light into a room. While these don’t offer as much in the way of privacy as other curtains, they are great for creating a breezy, bright feeling in your home. If privacy is a concern, you can pair with normal curtains.
Sheers are generally made of polyester, which is very easy to keep clean and is quite affordable. Day to day dust can simply be shaken off the curtains, and most other dirt can be washed out by placing the curtains in the washing machine. People with young children and pets will appreciate how easy these are to clean.

How to choose sheer curtains?

To keep your room open and spacious, a sheer works beautifully on its own. If you are looking for a cosier option, layer a voile curtain under or over a block out, plain or patterned curtain and you’ll bring your whole room together.
You may want to use these on large windows in sitting rooms, dining rooms and lounges. These curtains will allow light in during the day, while offering privacy from neighbours while the sun is out. If you plan on watching TV or sleeping in your room, you should probably consider adding an additional layer of standard curtaining to offer more light protection and privacy at night.
Sheer curtains are generally available in a range of neutral colours like beiges, blues and creams. A pure white voile is often the best option for bringing a light, island-like feel into your home.
